On the morning of April, 10, 2018 a national online conference on reviewing foreign non-governmental work in 2018 was organized by the Committee for foreign non-governmental organization affairs (COMINGO).

 

The conference was chaired by Mr. Bui Thanh Son, Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of COMINGO and Mr. Don Tuan Phong, Vice President cum General Secretary of the Vietnam Union Friendship Organizations (VUFO), Vice Chairman of COMINGO.

The conference also enjoyed the presence of Madam Nguyen Phuong Nga, President of VUFO; Mr. Nguyen Tuan Phong, Deputy Head of Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations; representative of agencies participating in COMNIGO’s mechanism; representatives of ministries, branches, central people’s organizations and leaders of central provincial people’s committees; focal agencies of foreign non-governmental work and other related agencies.

Mr. Phan Anh Son, General Director of the People’s Aid Coordinating Committee (PACCOM) presented a report on foreign non-governmental organizations’ activities; activities of COMINGO and agencies participating in COMINGO’s mechanism, and direction and tasks in 2019. According to the overall assessment, foreign NGOs continued to commit to colabor with Vietnam, contributing significantly to socio-economic development and promotion of people-to-people relations. The majority of foreign NGOs complied with Vietnam’s regulations and had good relations and cooperation with Vietnamese agencies during project implementation. Foreign aid continued to be stable and aid from embassies and foreign enterprises accounted for a significant proportion. Management and promotion of assistance from foreign NGOs are ensured and enhanced. Foreign non-governmental work received more attention from ministries, branches, and local authorities. Many ministries, branches, and local agencies proactively and effectively implemented activities of foreign non-governmental aid promotion.

At the conference, representatives of some of the ministries, branches and local agencies made reports and speeches about foreign non-governmental work in many sectors and shared their valuable experiences in management and promotion of foreign non-governmental aid. They also proposed specific recommendations to make this work better in the future.

At the end of the conference, Mr. Bui Thanh Son highlighted significant achievements of foreign non-governmental work and thanked ministries, branches, and local agencies for their efforts in the past. He also mentioned specific tasks such as organizing the 4th International Conference on Vietnam – Foreign NGOs Cooperation, the completing of legal documents relating to foreign non-governmental work, and applying information technology in administrative produces.

Regarding COMINGO’s direction in 2019, the Committee will strive to thoroughly grasp the guidance on foreign non-governmental work, especially the direction of the Prime Minister at the Conference on summarizing activities of COMINGO in the period 1996-2017, ensure management of foreign non-governmental organization, promote information sharing, improve the operational efficiency of the focal points, train and retrain staffs working in external relations, and diversify foreign non-governmental aid sources.
